He's a lazy gent. I thought with the heavy rain that came it wouldn't help him,. I thought he wanted better ground but he handled that well so I'm not so sure I was right. Phillip said he wouldn't handle heavy ground. The blinkers helped him as he was very sleepy in his races. Even when he hit the front today Phillip had to keep after him, he wouldn't do a whole pile. It's a good way to be. He holds condition, he does the same work as any other horse at home but at the same him he carries weight. He stands in the stable, eats everything and jog around the gallop at home. You'd say he wasn't put the effort in but hopefully that will all change after getting his head in front. I know the race cut up but I thought he had come on a good bit and he kept going. He deserved that. He ran a cracker in Roscommon and ran a good race the last day where we probably didn't make enough use of him. I said to Sean today to just use his jumping and his jumping won it for him. I was very worried half an hour ago when the fences were taken out of the previous race, that wouldn't of suited us at all, but thankfully they came back in. Liam Quinlan gave him a great ride in Roscommon and that was his first sort of good run. He tried to make all that day too. He is just a very, very good jumper when he gets into that rhythm. I was watching the races and there was horses behind making lots of mistakes, he just puts them under pressure. I ran him today after last week because there is not another race for him for about another five weeks, a three-mile plus race. It is great for dad, he is 70 on Monday. That is our last runner before that birthday, so I am delighted for him. Denis Macauley, who the race is named after, was a good friend of his as well. Big shout out to Geoffrey (Ruddock, owner), he has been a great supporter and patient. Mr Ruddock deserves it more than I do. That's Conor's fifth winner. He started with me just over a year ago and started with no experience. For the chances he is getting his strike rate has been extremely good. He is good value for his claim and this horse is an ideal one for him to ride as he has plenty of experience,. I got him off the Dooly's and Noel is still involved with him. The Dooly's are fabulous people and they gave me the opportunity to buy three horses and I'm really pleased to have them. They are great friends and are lovely people, so I can't say enough thanks to Noel and Jenny Dooly, they are very good to me. He is a winter horse and we have winter ground today. I believe it's summer heavy today and so did Paul Townend and a lot of the senior jockeys, yet the board inside still says soft, yielding in places. The same clerk of the course (Paul Moloney) gave good to yielding in Kilbeggan last night, whereas all the senior jockeys said good, no yielding. There is a huge discrepancies. How are they seeing it as slower than the riders last night and quicker than the riders today. The discrepancy is too big and it doesn't make sense. I'm delighted because my horse is a winter horse and he got heavy ground today. Liz Doyle told me this morning it would be proper soft and she was right. She’s a cracking filly who was bred by one of my owners Tommy James and while I previously leased her to a group of lads who then got tired of her, I wouldn't blame them,. I had to take her back myself and I'm delighted she has won as she is from a great family and her half-brother Piccolo Player won in Limerick recently for me, and he is a very good horse. . It is a proper family although I'm not a fan of Sageburg (her sire). She is a cracking little mare so will make a broodmare for somebody. She is difficult to train and to mind but we have great patience, that's one thing I have with horses and I give them every chance. If this mare had been in another yard, she'd have been scrapped long ago. This is a lovely horse, he's a half-brother to Fairyhill Run,. My cousin Tom Meagher bred him and the mother died when he was only three weeks old. Then his foster mother had bits of problems, it's only now he's growing into a horse. He's a useful horse. He'll go to Listowel now for the winners of one novice. He wants further, he's out of a Flemensfirth mare. Fairyhill Run is a brilliant mare, she won a lot for us. She got an injury but it looks like she'll come back. I'd say he's way better than her, he's exciting. It was a pity to run both horses against each other and we had planned in keeping them separately, but with so many meetings being called off it was a great result. We had a one-two previously in Ballinrobe and they are grand, solid, old mares who are healthy and well and will stay going as long as there is an ease in the ground.
