Formscan By Tom Weekes - CILAOS EMERY is a somewhat speculative pick, given he could well be Willie Mullins' second-string. Jockeys' Championship leader, and thus temporary stable-jockey, Paul Townend rides Duc Des Genievres but CILAOS EMERY could be ready to strike at a prestigious meeting on his reappearance from a long layoff. CILAOS EMERY was a high class hurdler, finishing second in the infamous Grade 1 Hurdle at Leopardstown in December 2017 (when Faugheen flopped) having previously won a Grade 1 novice hurdle. The lack of a previous outing on chase debut is an obvious concern but, very notably, he is one of just five entries Mullins has made for the Champion Hurdle in March, suggesting he retains plenty of his old ability. Duc Des Genievres was himself a high class novice hurdler last season and can benefit from his debut chase run at Naas in December. He ran a solid race then but was still a beaten even-money favourite and while dropping back in trip may suit him, having filled second place to Samcro in a Grade 1 hurdle over this trip last season, he might prove vulnerable to a fighting fit CILAOS EMERY. Ministerforsport is an admirable and able sort but was behind Duc Des Genievres latest while High School Days was a final fence casualty at Naas latest, when in contention, but faces a far tougher task now. Arctic Fire was a near-top class hurdler once and while he is interesting on chase debut, is possibly best watched in a hot beginners.
