Reaching a Royal winner in 'The Kingdom'

Unfortunately the King and Queen aren't present but would love to be here, as one of their stated aims is to visit every county in Ireland,. They only have a few left and hopefully will come to 'the Kingdom' some day. The horse got a fright at the last but he jumps well enough. He likes a flat track but it can be a bit sharp here and he is a huge, big, long-striding horse so was inclined to get unbalanced around the bends. Other than that, he did it well. The ultimate plan is to go for the Turners Novices Hurdle (2m5f) at Cheltenham next March and I think he is more of a good ground-horse, so running in Leopardstown at Christmas would be fantastic. We'll take it baby steps first.

we failed to have a winner here last year when we tried hard. This year we weren't as uptight about it, we said we'd just take it as it comes. We'd love to have a winner or two of course and it has worked out (this week). The fresh ground today is a big help to Marian Avenue. We said we'd jump out good and positive, try and get him jumping. He didn't travel the last day but Philip said he'd be good and positive and it work out great.

we were hoping she'd run well but I was a bit worried when the rain came last night. She has been running well all year and Danny gave her a lovely ride today. She is fairly straightforward, makes the running and goes along at her own gallop. She is very tough and tries hard. She is still quite well handicapped on the Flat and is a great fun mare. It was unfortunate for Philip (Enright), who had been riding her all year but couldn't today, although I have excellent riders to choose from.

It was last-minute getting in as a second reserve today and my voice is gone now!. He ran a cracker here on Wednesday when finishing third and we took our chance by running today. Ross rode point to point winners for me. I'm coming to Listowel races all my life and this is just amazing. I have my trainers' course done so am waiting for the paperwork to go through before having horses to run in my own name. I'm hanging around with Tom (Cooper) for years and rode a share of winners for him. He has a good job done with this horse as he is highly-strung although has the engine. When I do get my license, I'll keep my operation quite small and will mostly have point-to-pointers to sell. I don't want to get too big because it is very hard to get staff down this side of the country. This win is what it's all about.

She proves The One in bumper

She had a couple of nice runs and a lovely run (when second) in a point-to-point as well,. It was initially the late Hugh Mulryan who owned her, and I asked was it ok if he sold her to stay in my yard, to owner John Mahon. I was talking to Liam (Mulryan, Hugh's father) this morning and told him to back her, so I hope he did. She is improving, I've always liked her and hopefully she has a good future over jumps.

King returns with stylish win

I’m happy out with that. He got injured in Killarney in a six-runner race where the first four either won or were placed in Royal Ascot on their next runs,. We got him back and he was ready but we thought he did might just need the run. He’s a nice horse. This is a great tonic for Tom Marr, his wife and her sister Mairead, as Mairead is the grandmother of Kaitlyn (Ryan), who got the fall recently so that’s a bit of a help.
