The Veterinary Officer reported that Bellum Justum (IRE), trained by Andrew Balding, appeared to show evidence of possible administration of a substance, with a lump present in the region of the left jugular vein.
The Trainer and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed.
Andrew Balding explained that the colt had been administered with sodium iodide solution and sodium hyaluronate the previous day on 1 May 2025, which was verified by the Home Veterinary Surgeon at Kingsclere.
Being satisfied that Bellum Justum (IRE) had received only normal food and water by mouth on the day of racing, the Stewards allowed the horse to run and ordered Bellum Justum (IRE) to be routine tested post-race and ordered a report to be forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
Following the race, Harry Davies reported that Ambiente Friendly (IRE), placed fourth, ran too free.
