Permission was given for Many A Star (IRE) and Mrs Morrell (GB) to wear a red hood in the preliminaries.
Approaching 1 ½ furlongs out, Tyke (IRE), placed fourth, edged left-handed giving a nudge to the winner, Many A Star (IRE), which in turn bumped and turned the quarters of Stanley Spencer (IRE), placed third.
But after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately 1 furlong out, involving Stanley Spencer (IRE), placed third, ridden by Neil Callan, the winner, Many A Star (IRE), ridden by William Carver, and Tyke (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Frederick Larson.
The Stewards considered that the interference was accidental as Callan’s mount shifted quickly right-handed away from the whip, taking Many A Star (IRE), slightly of its intended line, which in turn bumped Tyke (IRE).
Following the race, Warren Fentiman reported that Ormolulu (IRE), unplaced, was slowly away.
