Dancing Teapot too hot for her rivals
Deuteronomy grabs elusive first victory
He was a little unlucky in Leopardstown, when he got his gap it closed again. I thought if there was a little horse that deserved his win it was him so I’m delighted he got it today. I thought with the ground drying out and a mile here it might be a bit on the sharp side for him. Shane Foley said to me one day to maybe put a bit of headgear on him, it might help him concentrate, so a big thanks to him for guiding me along. It did help, the horse was sharper there today for the visor and raced in her hands. I left it to herself today. I thought with the wide draw and the ground drying out that we weren’t going to be involved. I just told her to be positive and best of luck. Thank God, it’s a great day. When those type of horses are knocking around at that grade sometimes it can fall your way. He deserves it anyway.
Clean sweep for O'Brien in Gowran Classic
Pietropaolo forges link with Oliver
He did it well and Julian gave him a lovely ride. He rode a horse for us recently at Leopardstown and got it spot on. He got the ride spot on and the race report and subsequent recommendation spot on. When this race turned up, I asked the agent if Julian could ride and the divide came in our favour. We got him and the race went very well. I spotted on the way down that he was almost favourite and the one that worried me was Cherry Pink, on the form. At the weights reversal it put us there or thereabouts so I could see why. We put extra headgear on him today just to focus his mind and everything went to plan.
Keane eyes Ballybrit for Beauparc
When she’s right, she’s a nice filly. The last (day) she ran disappointingly. I thought she might be in season, but we found nothing wrong. Maybe the track in Sligo just didn’t suit her and they maybe just over watered the ground. She’s done her job today anyway, that’s three she’s won now. She’ll probably be rated in the 80s now. The lads would like to go to Galway so that’ll probably be the next stop. She probably won’t run before that and she seems to run better fresh. She might take her chance in the mile and a-half premier handicap there.
Gotomylovely grabs another Gowran win
She’s probably better going right-handed and she likes it here,. Joey (Sheridan) gave her a good ride, they got it handy in front and worked away fine. She was better behaved in the stalls today, she blew the start here the last day. Hopefully we’ll get another day somewhere. I probably try and get black-type somewhere, whether that is achievable or not. We might as well as she’s won two now. That’s the first time those new (white) colours have been used.
Maestro Mark lands gamble on debut at Gowran
said Carroll. He gave me a lovely feel. He travelled through the race really easily, I got there sooner than I wanted to, but he just picked up so well. He was very green when he hit the front, he rode like a nice horse. Ger’s (Lyons) is an 88-rated horse (Game Point) and he beat him very easily. He felt very smart and I think there is a lot more to come.
Casheldale Lass enjoys her handicap debut at Gowran
I’m delighted with that. We know the family well. She’s a bit hot. I half fancied her the last day and we had a hood on to try and settle her as she was keen the first day but she nearly settled too much, I think. We stuck the cheekpieces on today. She always showed a good bit working, but she used to get worked out. Paul O’Brien has done a lot of jumping with her recently and it seems to have settled her. We were scratching our heads after the last day so we just changed tactics all together and said we’d go forward here. I was a little worried about the ground. I thought she was a nice filly and did good work as a two-year-old. We actually fancied her first time out even though the family take time. We had the brother Liffeydale Dreamer, who was a decent horse. She’ll be a dual-purpose filly. She’s a real game filly and she finally showed today what we thought of her at home. The family is a little bit hot and she used to boil over a bit at home on the Curragh. We kind of stopped working her and starting schooling her since the last day. Robbie won on the brother as well, so it’s great. I’m delighted for Gary and Sean (Murphy, owners). They are good craic and they were very patient. Hopefully she’ll be a fun filly for them.
