THE GIEVES & HAWKES NOVICES' HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 5) Permission was given for Harksman (GB) to wear a red hood to the start.
The apparent improvement in form of the winner, Huckleberry Sting (GB), which had never previously been placed, was considered.
Tom Ellis explained that the gelding appeared to have benefitted from the return to 3 miles over fences, having previously raced twice over 2 miles 4½ furlongs over hurdles after winning a 3 mile maiden point-to-point in March 2025.
His comments were noted and Huckleberry Sting (GB) was routine tested.
Following the race, Callum Pritchard reported that Black Occ (IRE), which was pulled up, made a bad mistake at the twelfth fence, was never travelling thereafter and Sheila Lewis reported that the gelding had a respiratory issue.
Jonathon Bewley reported that Tory Hill (IRE), which was pulled up, jumped right-handed; the Veterinary Officer reported that the gelding lost its left-hind shoe.
The Veterinary Officer further reported that Harksman (GB), unplaced, lost its left-hind shoe.
