Eighteenth Smiles gets off the mark
Angel continues Slattery's purple patch
I thought this horse would be rated a lot higher by now. He was disappointing and was hanging in his races. Thanks to (vet) Ger Kelly he spotted a thing with kissing spines after his last run. We had him treated for it and it seems to have made a difference. He didn't hang today and did everything right. He had a good run when he was beaten a neck in a Curragh nursery last year and he was working like one of our best two-year-olds in the autumn. He came here on his first run this year and ran badly. We brought him over the Ger and he found the problem. I thought he'd be a horse in the mid 70s, at least, by now. Hopefully there is more to come. It's only three weeks since he was done and he should improve a bit from the run. We didn't do a lot with him since.
Bamako Beach doubles his tally
He's a horse that we've obviously thought a lot of, given where we've run him,. This was a good race, taking on older horses. Someone asked me this morning was he a 'moral' and I said on his rating, if he runs to his mark, he should be hard to beat. He's a good horse. We have the (Prix de la) Foret in our head for him and there is a Group 3 in a few weeks, called the Prix de Pin, in France. We may go for that or go straight to the Foret. He's still a big baby. He only had one run as a two-year-old and he finds things very easy. He's a bit over enthusiastic and sometimes they can be a bit slow to learn. He couldn't have done that any easier, he's won with plenty in hand. Today is a conditions race but there were no hiding places on paper, taking on older horses. He's gone and done it well with a bit in hand. He's done everything we could have hoped for and we'll take a shot now.
Magny Cours impresses after break
On her run in Leopardstown she showed what she’s capable of, especially when she’s able to get her toe in,. It’s brilliant when a plan works out. It’s been a long wait on the weather. I was hoping that it would be worth it and it was, it was more than worth it. I was saying to Ben when he came in that when you are going that easy it’s hard to sit.
Likedbymike provides Byrne with a sentimental victory
That's unbelievable. It means everything really,. She deserved that, she's been knocking on the door a good few times. She won her maiden here so she obviously loves it here. We gave her a break after she won in Naas and it probably did her good. She got great confidence from winning in Naas, it was a nice handy run. We've only two horses to run and we ran the two of them today. Breeze-ups are our main thing. We couldn't get this one into a breeze-up so we had to run her. There is a fillies Listed race at the Curragh at the start of next month so that's probably where we'll go next. She doesn't mind an ease in the ground, she handles it. This doesn't happen too often to us.
Harnett Feels Happy after maiden win
She did it well, she toughed it out in fairness,. I was a bit worried with the bit of rain that came but she's improving so I'm delighted. She has good pedigree and is a nice-looking filly so it's obviously important to get a win into her. We'll see what the handicapper does, what he makes of that. She's rated 73 so she's a little bit off getting black-type, even though that's the next goal with a filly like her. Whether she's capable of that, I don't know. We'll take her home and make a plan.
Slattery takes the crown as Lauderdale wins the finale
He was crying out for a bit of ease in the ground so we fancied him today when we got a bit of rain,. He ran well in Leopardstown but the ground was a bit quick for him. Hopefully he'll get another one in that grade. He jumps well and he'll go over hurdles. He's a grand horse. He did what we expected today.
