THE QUICKSLIDE QUICK RIDE APPRENTICES' DERBY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) (GBBPLUS RACE) Permission was given for Charmaine (GB), DUC DU KENT (FR) and Crooked Path (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race following an objection from Mason Paetel, the rider of Crooked Path (IRE), placed second, after interference approximately one furlong out between the winner, Duc De Kent (FR), ridden by Conor Whiteley and Crooked Path (IRE).
The Stewards ordered the result to remain unaltered as they could not be satisfied that, with an uninterrupted run to the finish, Crooked Path (IRE) would have finished in front of Duc De Kent (FR), as the ground and momentum lost was less than the distance of a neck at the line.
The Stewards deemed the interference to be accidental as Duc De Kent (FR) shifted slightly left-handed, despite its rider’s best effort, taking Crooked Path (IRE) marginally off its intended line, causing the gelding to lose no momentum and minimal ground.
Approximately one furlong out, the winner, Duc De Kent (FR), shifted left-handed before being corrected by its rider and in doing so caused the rider of Gordon Grey (IRE), placed fourth, to take a slight check, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Duc De Kent (FR).
The winner, Duc De Kent (FR) appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Kempton Park on 12 August 2026, where the gelding finished tenth of twelve runners, beaten by 12¾ lengths.
The representative of Ian Williams’ explanation that the gelding appreciated a return to turf, was noted.
Duc De Kent (FR) was routine tested.
