THE CHIGWELL GROUP - THE TRADE'S FRONT RUNNER HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) Permission was given for Skibo (GB) to go to post early wearing a red hood and for Beach Point (IRE) and Super Hit (FR) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference approaching the final furlong, involving the winner, Carnival Day (IRE), ridden by Pat Cosgrave, Beach Point (IRE), placed second, ridden by Hector Crouch, Patrol (IRE), placed third, ridden by Jack Callan and Moonrunner (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Kaiya Fraser.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Beach Point (IRE)'s placing as it was always holding the third and with the distance at the line being a length.
The Stewards ordered the result to remain unaltered as they could not be satisfied that, with an uninterrupted run to the finish, Patrol (IRE) would have finished in front of Beach Point (IRE), as the ground and momentum lost was less than the distance of a length at the finish.
The Stewards found the interference to be accidental, as despite Crouch’s efforts to keep his mount straight, it hung left-handed down the camber towards the inside rail, at the same time as Callan’s mount shifted right-handed up the camber, causing Moonrunner (GB) to be short of room which in turn caused Patrol (IRE) to also be short of room which then in turn gave Carnival Day (IRE) a bump.
Following the race, George Wood reported that Yokkell (IRE), unplaced, was slowly away.
