Supreme Lords it over rivals in opening nursery
Progressive Amiata edges tight finish
He parks when he gets to the front. He’s a fine horse and the last day left him right. He will go to the Champions Weekend (Bold Lad Handicap) now because it is the obvious race, but he's not good enough at three for that sort of competition. We were always training him to be that sort of horse for his owner at four and five. You can see him physically growing. He's not ready for the 'big-time' yet. He'd have to (be ready) at four with a rating like that. You don't have to over-face him this year and these types of races will suit him. If he didn't go to Champions Weekend, there's a 100 (grade) race back here and he would probably go there. I’m delighted for the owners.
De Aguiar doubles up with Bridge
Two races on his back and today he's getting more professional. He has put his head in front, and I think he is going to improve again. He is getting more mature and stronger. He's a nice horse for the future. On Champions Weekend, there is a sales race for him (Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes, Curragh) and I think that is what we will go for.
Lyons and Keane double up with That
I’m delighted, but I don't agree with optional claimers. Would he have been in the claimer if he was to be claimed? No, he wouldn't. I have taken a chance as has the second and I think the third (Jezzie Bea). We don't have enough claimers, and I don't think we need them (optional claimers) in this country. I need a claimer every week because people will buy our horses, and I believe in them. The rules allowed me in today, so I took a punt because the maidens are so hot. We found his trip and I don't think the handicapper has missed him - he normally has a grasp of them. I'd like to think that's (nursery) where we will aim - aim as low as we are allowed to aim. I think the point of the story today is, I don't agree with optional claimers and I'd like to know who brought them in. I certainly didn't know about them. I don't think we need them in this country.
Nephin not for passing at Navan
He was knocking on the door and he won in Ballinrobe. The handicapper wasn't too hard on him. We came here and it wasn't an ideal distance, I'd say he is probably and a mile and two horse. It was great when the race was divided and we let him take his chance. We knew he would stay. He might come back here again next week.
Whelan bags family winner on Plaisir
He had a nice run in the Curragh, and the soft ground and the mile and two (furlongs) in Sligo probably tested his stamina a bit. Back over the mile in the Curragh, he finished well, and we just thought the stiffer mile here would suit him even better. He needed every bit of that there to get it. Probably a mile-and-one or an easy mile-and-two on quickish ground is probably his trip. He's a weak, immature horse and a horse we are not going to see the best of until next year. He's a lovely horse, but he's not the horse yet that he is going to be. He does need a bit more time. He is going to furnish and strengthen up, and he will get stronger in himself and everything. Every winner is important nowadays for us and for Ronan. His mother and father own it, so it is always good to keep it in the family.
Sun shines up in trip
We were a bit worried about that (trip); we didn't know what to expect. The last 100 yards he pulled out a bit again, so we will be happy with that. He actually jumps very well.
Leading apprentice Coen bags Navan brace on Miss
This filly needs a drop of rain. She won in Roscommon, and I suppose she had slipped down a wee bit (in the weights).
