Cromwell's hotpot lands the first at Galway
I fancied him to run well here in a bumper at the festival but he disappointed and while I know he went off very short odds today, I was a little nervous to be honest. He did it well but it wasn't much of a race, so we won't be getting excited yet. He is a grand horse though and we will look for a rated novice now.
Torquay Road a last-gasp winner for Staples
He got in close to the last two hurdles which didn't help him as he was tight for room, but it was a great ride by Eoin. It is nice to get another win out of him. He is a good honest horse, put his head down and Eoin said he wanted to win. I think he just began with a high rating at the start so it took him a while to find his feet, but he's really getting the hang of the jumping now. We are open to any plans with him at the moment, so we'll see.
Paul Collins off the mark for McMahon
He has been nothing but genuine since we got him and is one of the best in my yard. He ran well here at the festival over a shorter trip when he stayed on great and in fairness to Sean O'Keeffe (jockey then), he said to step him up half-a-mile and he was spot on. It was my fault to run him in his first handicap chase at Listowel the last day, which was too much of an ask, and he needs to be minded a bit. He came out of a ThoroughBid Sale and wasn't overly dear (£14,000), so we're delighted with him. Owen O'Connor and Martin Baker own him. Martin owns the local Burren Inn in Tubber which I probably have shares in myself at this stage!
Kilashee makes all for eighth career victory
She is a great mare but we had problems with her earlier in the year when we couldn't get her right. She seemed to bounce back with her run at Roscommon though. She came home a little sore from her run on quick ground in Kilbeggan during the summer, as she loves to get her toe in. Michael is a good lad and cost me a race in Killarney only two days ago, when he beat my horse Zolpharine into second. He rode his first winner for me yesterday on Flidais in Tipperary.
Ol Man Dingle a nice chasing prospect for Griffin
I'm delighted with him and, to be honest, he will improve for the run, so we'd have been happy with a respectable performance coming here. He did very well for us up until last Christmas but I was a little bit disappointed with his run (finishing fourth) at the Dublin Racing Festival afterwards. Even though he ran well, I was a little disappointed and then he had a disappointing run at Navan a month later, but we found a little thing wrong with him. He seems over that little hiccup and hopefully now we can look forward to a nice novice chase campaign with him. I think 2m4f is his trip and while I haven't thought beyond today, for a trainer like me to have a horse to start thinking about running in good races is a real bonus. We will have a more than normal amount of horses in this winter but have a lot of young horses, so we won't be busy with runners until the spring time.
Inthenickoftime cruises home under Torrens
That was due as he was unlucky one day at Roscommon when he slipped into a hurdle and finding the right trip for him was the problem. Two miles was too short and three was too far, but this race popped up and he was in good form. He is in again in a handicap hurdle at Tramore on Thursday so we'll see how he is but he will probably run, before the ground gets heavy. He is a nice horse for next summer.
