THE WE ARE CHRISTMAS PARTY CENTRAL HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) Permission was given for Brummell (IRE), Fierce (IRE) and Emperor Caradoc (FR) to all go early to post and for Call To Action (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
Desert Treasure (GB) wore ear plugs which were removed at the start.
Straight Ahead (GB) trained by Craig Lidster, ran at Redcar the previous day, finishing sixth of fourteen runners.
Having been examined by the Veterinary Officer prior to racing, the gelding was deemed fit to race.
Fierce (IRE) and Emperor Caradoc (FR), trained by Paul Midgley, arrived in the parade ring incorrectly saddled.
Having been interviewed, Midgley was fined £140.
Approximately one furlong out, Brummell (IRE), placed second, shifted quickly right-handed away from the heels of Accrual (GB), placed fifth, moving Straight Ahead (GB), unplaced, off its intended line, leaving Fierce (IRE), unplaced, short for room against the rail.
After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Brummell (IRE).
The performance of Desert Treasure (GB), which finished seventh of twelve runners, beaten 6 ½ lengths, was considered.
It was noted that the representative of William Haggas could offer no explanation for the performance of the filly.
Desert Treasure (GB) was routine tested.
