I'm delighted with that as it looked like we were going to go through the year without winning one with him. He has never a handicap from a mark higher than 87 and he is getting older and mightn't be as good as he once was. He hasn't the zip he once had but that ground slowed the pace down a little bit. He's dangerous in the 80s. He is a great lead horse and we're very fond of him. He'll be back again for the Lincoln next March.
P J Prendergast
I'd like to tell you that was a clever plan but we were frustrated on Saturday and we were whinging and moaning that the rain came on Sunday. He was a fast finishing third on Saturday but unless it's heavy seven (furlongs) is a bit sharp. I knew he was going to run well today, although on the ratings he had it all to do. He finds a leg when the ground is soft and that's his real trip. Ronan gave him a cracking ride too. It's very important for the stud. He's home-bred, and they have the mother and siblings. I've a very happy owner (Rick Barnes). He's in the Cambridgeshire but he's gone up in my estimations. I'm very fond of him at the moment and I think I'll give him a day off. Having said that if I look in the morning and see an outlandish rise in the ratings I could change my mind. He's so exposed at this stage that I doubt he'll get that much. He's the oldest horse in the race by some way, and he knows more about racing at this stage than I do!
P J Prendergast
He hasn't got the spark he used to have but once the ground come like this he goes on it and the others don't. Last year he won in Listowel when it was bottomless down there. He once won over five buts he's lost his old toe. He keeps going in that muck.
P J Prendergast
Gary said to be that there would have been a serious row if he'd have been beaten as he was so far back turning in!. He is very consistent but was unlucky the last day when the leather came undone in the Cambridgeshire. He was due his turn but had been placed an awful lot and that's only his third win. He is a very handsome horse, was a good two year old but was stuck in the 90s. He loves the bad ground and we'll probably have a wet autumn so we'll try to find another race.
P J Prendergast
That was long overdue as he had about 20 runs in the 90s (ratings) but the penny dropped after two or three years and he eventually got to the 80s where he belongs,. I'm delighted for his owner (Rick Barnes) as he was advised to send him to England to get a chance. He's a great supporter of Irish racing though and it would be a shame if my contemporaries have to send horses to England to get dropped. Finishing second to Dawn Approach (in March 2012) was the worst thing he ever did. Gary (Halpin) is a big plus as his 5lb claim is almost free at this stage.
P J Prendergast
He's actually a six or seven furlong horse. He probably has no business running in a five furlong race at Tipperary but he's tough and hardy,. He'll get an entry in the Marble Hill Stakes (5f Listed 26th May Curragh) but would only run there if it's soft as he needs further. My two-year-olds are in good nick. There won't be many more three-runner two-year-old races in Tipperary.
P J Prendergast
