Formscan By Alan Magee - MICK SLATES has been dropped 10lb by the handicapper since joining Tony Martin this term but his latest effort at Down Royal suggests he may well be getting onto a competitive mark. The six-year-old gelding is a four-time winner in his younger days for Declan Carroll, with a career high mark of 72, and a number of his previous outings this term have been on very testing ground. Three Bells makes a quick reappearance after scoring at Fairyhouse on Wednesday, and the handicapper agrees with the mandatory 5lb penalty by putting him up the same amount in future events. The top-weight is also a course and distance winner, and effective over a variety of trips. Versilia Gal has gone over two years without a win and is probably best suited by more cut in the ground than will be on offer here, although her latest run at Sligo was encouraging.
