Formscan By Alan Magee - Willie Mullins has reportedly never had a novice to jump as well as FOOTPAD and the spring-heeled gelding hasn’t put a foot wrong in two outings over fences this term. The six-year-old stretched clear in the straight to readily beat Any Second Now by 11 lengths in the Grade 1 Racing Post Novice Chase over course and distance on St Stephen’s Day. Petit Mouchoir beat Footpad on all three occasions they met over hurdles last season including a length verdict here 12 months ago in the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle. Henry de Bromhead’s charge also made a very promising start over fences at Punchestown but a setback has sidelined him for over three months since. He remains an exciting prospect but the selection’s excellent jumping may now give him the edge. Demi Sang came home strongly to make a winning start for current connections at Naas last month, while Tycoon Prince is another interesting sort. The three-time bumper winner rather lost his way hurdling but should be a force over fences judged on his victory here over Christmas.
