Formscan By Alan Magee - Plenty of questions need to be answered here with a cautious vote going to FAUGHEEN to get back on track after a lifeless display last time at this venue in the Ryanair Hurdle. The Germany gelding carried all before him in the 2014/15 season with a trio of Grade 1 wins including the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham. Injury kept him off the track for 22 months until a brilliant return in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown in November before that dismal performance last time. No physical reason has been found to explain the run and hopefully he can now bounce back to form. Defi Du Seuil was the dominant juvenile last term when landing the JCB Triumph Hurdle by five lengths and following up at Aintree. However he’s also on a retrieval mission having blown out on his reappearance at Ascot in November and has been absent since. Melon was a beaten favourite in Grade 1 novice company at both the Cheltenham and Punchestown Festivals last term. He made a winning reappearance at Down Royal before running too freely when finding no extra in the closing stages behind My Tent Or Yours in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham before Christmas. Mick Jazz was the chief beneficiary of Faugheen’s disappointing effort last time but perhaps Supasundae might be a better option for those looking at an each-way punt.
