Formscan By Shane Redmond - The classy GAUCHER (1) can defy his penalties as he goes back over hurdles for the first time in a year. He scored a win in the two-mile Horse %26 Jockey Hotel Hurdle at Tipperary on his last jumping start, his third Grade 3 success. More recently, he showed up well in a couple of Group 3 races at Leopardstown, behind his own stable companion Ethical Diamond and then Arabian Crown at Irish Champions Festival and is now preferred to El Cairos who hasn't done all that much since his winning turn when long odds-on for a maiden hurdle at Thurles in January. He was a disappointing favourite at the Punchestown Festival but wasn't all that far behind Putapoundinthejar in the Galway Hurdle last time. Samui might want better ground but could yet be next best.

Quotes on Balko D'ange (FR)
His best form is on soft to heavy ground. Mind you, it is no worse than soft today. I was delighted the way he travelled, and he jumped well. He did (Hayes produced him well) - he's probably a horse that doesn't find an awful lot. You think he (Hayes) has lots of horse underneath him and he was all out probably at the finish. I think Brian timed it right. I'd say around Christmas time (next). I had him in at Haydock next Saturday and obviously he won't go. Our preference was here because we were guaranteed slow ground. The ground was a bit too dry in Down Royal, but he had a good run in Tipperary on ground that was a little bit too dry for him as well. Ground is the key to him. After Balko D'ange (FR) finished 1st at Navan on Mon, 17th Nov 2025 2m Hcap Hurdle Soft

Quotes on Ebony King (IRE)
I’m happy out with that. He got injured in Killarney in a six-runner race where the first four either won or were placed in Royal Ascot on their next runs,. We got him back and he was ready but we thought he did might just need the run. He’s a nice horse. This is a great tonic for Tom Marr, his wife and her sister Mairead, as Mairead is the grandmother of Kaitlyn (Ryan), who got the fall recently so that’s a bit of a help. After Ebony King (IRE) finished 1st at Listowel on Fri, 25th Sep 2026 1m 6f Flat Good to Yielding

Quotes on El Cairos (FR)
It is job done and he never came out of second gear. Jack said it was his fault at the last as he said he should have either taken him back or asked him, but I loved the way he came back on the bridle straight away and you’d have to be impressed by that,. We came here looking for good ground so I was nervous, but it was either come here or to Navan or Punchestown next week, which was getting too close to Cheltenham. I don’t think he could have done any more and he is very fast. Jack said the boot he has is unbelievable. He’ll learn plenty from today and even racing in a big field will do him no harm. He’ll go straight to Cheltenham and he’ll be way better on better ground. After El Cairos (FR) finished 1st at Thurles on Thu, 29th Jan 2026 1m 7f Maiden Hurdle Heavy

Quotes on Mister Pessimistic (IRE)
In fairness Sean Doyle recommended him to us and it was pretty simple once I saw what name he had, although however bad I am, the only person more pessimistic is his owner Niall O'Leary!. He is a lovely young horse, did it nicely in the end and the second horse is a decent horse as well. I got nervous after his mistake at the second-last but he jumped the last well and galloped out well. He is unbeaten and has done nothing wrong, so hopefully he'll keep progressing. . I was in two minds whether to stay in bumpers this season or go hurdling but he jumps so well at home. We definitely like him and I need to go and look at plans now, but I want to keep him at that trip. . There aren't many options during Christmas so he could run in Leopardstown's Grade 1 novice over two miles. I think nice ground is important to him. After Mister Pessimistic (IRE) finished 1st at Cork on Sun, 2nd Nov 2025 2m Maiden Hurdle Yielding

Quotes on Samui (GB)
I was worried about the ground, which is yielding, but he went through it better than most. I was actually very nervous about my four runners due to the rain which came. Whatever happened he choked with Jack (Kennedy, jockey) the last day at Ballinrobe but it worked out today. . I don't think he is a winter horse but is definitely a type to head to Cheltenham in November. We might then put him away as he could also run on the flat next year. After Samui (GB) finished 1st at Listowel on Mon, 18th Sep 2023 2m Hcap Hurdle Good to Yielding
