Formscan By John O'Riordan - Although HELVIC DREAM has a bit to find at these weights and would arguably prefer another two furlongs, the Noel Meade-trained seven-year-old could cause a mild upset. Fit from a hurdling campaign this winter, the gelding is also at his best when the mud is flying. If he is to ever beat such opponents then this race represents his best chance. Epsom Derby third White Birch is the undoubted class act in the line up. Much will depend on how forward the John Joseph Murphy-trained four-year-old is for this reappearance, as he is likely to have loftier targets as the season progresses. Layfayette, a second runner for Noel Meade, was a revelation in this grade last season. The son of French Navy always runs well first-time out, so an absence since November is a positive if anything.
