Formscan - This revolves around the brilliant SHISHKIN, who got his career back on track in the Ascot Chase, hosing up when stepped up to 2m5f on his first start after a wind operation and in a first-time tongue tie. Nicky Henderson's star can make it three wins from four tries at the Festival, while also giving his trainer a third triumph in this race. Envoi Allen, another dual Festival hero, has been hit-and-miss more recently but if he brings his A-game, similar to when landing a Grade 1 at Down Royal before his King George failure, he could have a say under Rachael Blackmore. Blue Lord was beaten at long odds-on over 2m1f at the Dublin Racing Festival, but he struck gold at that trip at Leopardstown over Christmas and was third in the Arkle here last year. He took the Clonmel Oil Chase over this sort of distance in November and is a force to be reckoned with.

That was very smart, I thought they'd go too fast for him here and they did go fast. I was looking at two-and-a-half miles for him this year but it looks like he could be a Champion Chase horse after that performance. Certainly the dial is coming back to two miles now rather than going out to two-and-a-half. It just means he's improving. I haven't thought about where he goes but I'm sure there is a programme there for those two mile horses. He's back to himself. He was very good all week and he trained very well. I thought I had him very ready the last couple of times and he disappointed so this week I decided I was just going to get him here at 95 percent and I think he's better like that. He's been pleasing me at home doing that so that's what I'll be doing for the future and hopefully I can get him across the water in that sort of form. He doesn't seem to bring his A-game when he gets on the ferry, whatever it is. Maybe I'll go undercooked rather than properly cooked the next time. It's brilliant to have him back. Obviously, things just didn't go right for us sadly - obviously at Cheltenham and then at Punchestown as well. I had never seen it before but he must have hit the fence so hard. He had a little chip that Gerry Kelly removed and it is fantastic to see him back on track and I'm delighted for Cheveley. He was brilliant. To be honest I thought he was mighty going to Cheltenham, possibly too well - too fresh and well. It was just unlucky and Punchestown again just didn't fall right for us. It is lovely to start afresh and to start back like that. He jumped brilliant and you can tell by the smile on Rachael's face the buzz she got off it. He will step forward from that. It’s always difficult after Cheltenham to know how much to do with them. Obviously they are fit, but the team have done great because they came here in pretty good nick. Both are very good novices though, they’ve had pretty nearly perfect seasons. Nico said he could have done with a lead for longer. Gumball usually goes a solid gallop, but he didn’t today. He’s a very laid-back horse and at home you don’t see the speed you see on track. He’s got a wonderful temperament and I suspect he was just getting lonely. Fair play to the second, though. It’s amazing how quick he gets to the other side of a fence, it’s a very effective technique but it is a bit unusual. He won’t go to Punchestown, doing the two is difficult, doing the three, you need to be Sprinter or something, who did it one year. You’d like to think it will be the normal two-mile route next year, and I’d like to think Altior is at Sandown in two weeks. If they meet next year, they have to meet.
