Formscan By Michael Graham - CRACKING SMART is interesting each-way at a massive price. He bounced right back to form in the Grade 2 Boyne Hurdle in Navan last month when drawing four lengths clear of Penhill. This soft ground should be right up his street and the 8lb extra he is due to carry is mostly offset by the booking of 7lb claimer Gavin Brouder. This is the same trip as the Navan race and he finished that one off, up the stiff finish, to good effect. He was 11th in this race last year when travelling well three out before leading turning in. He was headed coming to the last and then weakened, however, he comes into this renewal in much better form. Eglantine Du Seuil has the ability to make an impact in this big field. You only have to look at the graded races she has been contesting. Her third to Honeysuckle in a mares' novices' hurdle at Fairyhouse last April reads well. The British handicapper hasn't missed her, though, as she has to compete off 9lb higher than when last seen finishing fourth in Ireland. Alfa Mix is another Irish challenger with good credentials. The five-year-old has been snapped up by JP McManus after a decent second place in a Grade B handicap hurdle at Navan. Prior to that, he won in the same company at the same track. In both races he travelled well, and could get a lovely tow into contention here. Canardier has switched to Willie Mullins and was fifth in this last year, beaten less than three lengths.
