Formscan By Eamonn Murphy - Similar comments applied when he was entered at Thurles last Thursday, but much could depend on how Clancy Strand (lame then) goes in the betting here. The New Zealand-bred son of Montjeu is rated 101 over hurdles whilst he competes in this sphere from a mark of 85. With the dual hurdle winner only saddled with ten stone ten in this event, Clancy Strand, if strong in the betting, is not easy to look beyond. I find myself drawn to the chances of a couple of mares in this extended two and quarter miler though, namely Streedagh Lady and BREFFNI GAEL (now having her third start for Philip Dempsey). The former has a point-to-point and a chase victory to her name already and she should have more success in her at some stage. However, Breffni Gael looks more appealing on this occasion with Andrew Lynch booked and just a handy ten stone three on her back. The main reason for liking her chance now is the fact that she won a deep ground Castletown-Geoghegan 'point' last month. For a mares maiden that had a bit of strength in depth, Goosing Around was second (she has some reasonable Park form to her name) and Oscar Amy was third (won a 'point' since). Pulled up at Tinahely last time, it may just be that Breffni Gael is best when underfoot conditions are at their most testing and she should get plenty of 'dig' here.
