Permission was given for Raakeb (IRE) and Wild Desert (IRE) to both wear a red hood to post.

Approaching the 2 furlong marker, Venetian Lace (IRE), placed fourth, hung left-handed, despite the riders best efforts, taking Wild Desert (IRE), placed third, off its intended line and thereafter continued to hang badly left-handed, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.

An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line involving the winner, Saba Desert (GB), ridden by William Buick, Italy (GB), placed second, ridden by Ryan Moore and Wild Desert (IRE), placed third, ridden by James Doyle.

Oisin Murphy, the rider of Venetian Lace (IRE), placed fourth, was also interviewed but found not to be involved in the placings enquiry.

The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved either Italy (GB) or Saba Desert (GB)’s position as initially, Italy (GB), having gained the upper hand over Wild Desert (IRE) when shifting right-handed despite Moore’s best efforts, took Wild Desert (IRE) slightly of its intended line, with the distance between the pair a well held neck.

Thereafter, Saba Desert (GB), who was going away from the field, to win by an extended length and a quarter, at the time of the incident, had hung left-handed despite Buick’s best efforts, causing Doyle to have to steady his mount off the heels of Saba Desert (GB).

The interference was found to be accidental in both incidents, as Moore and Buick’s mounts moved despite the rider’s best efforts.

Following the race, Oisin Murphy reported that Venetian Lace (IRE), placed fourth, hung left-handed under pressure.
