THE BRITISH STALLION STUDS EBF MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 2) (Winner receives free entry to The 2027 Betfred St Leger) (GBB/GBBPLUS RACE) Leaving the starting stalls, Game Character (GB), placed third, jumped right-handed at the same time as Kingspell (IRE), unplaced, jumped left-handed, which resulted in Beloved Country (GB), unplaced, to be squeezed out between runners, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Game Character (GB).
Approaching 7 furlongs out, in a tightly bunched field, Kingspell (IRE), unplaced, became short of room, causing its rider to take a check when awkwardly placed between a free running Game Character (GB), placed third, and Berkshire Regal (IRE), placed fifth, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of any runner.
Approximately 1½ furlongs out, the winner, Al Jabbar (IRE), switched right-handed into a tight but legitimate gap between Hmas Perth (USA), placed second, and Berkshire Regal (IRE), placed fifth, at which point Hmas Perth (USA) edged slightly right-right handed, which resulted in Al Jabbar (IRE) and Berkshire Regal (IRE) to be taken slightly off their intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of any runner.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line involving the winner, Al Jabbar (IRE), ridden by Billy Loughnane and Hmas Perth (USA), placed second, ridden by W M Lordan.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Al Jabbar (IRE)’s placing as the initial contact came from Hmas Perth (USA), which moved right- handed away from the whip, bumping and unbalancing Al Jabbar (IRE) who had been running on a true line.
This resulted in Al Jabbar (IRE) leaning towards and giving a bump to Hmas Perth (USA), which resulted in both runners drifting left-handed, both runners thereafter ran straight to the line with Al Jabbar (IRE) holding Hmas Perth (USA) to win by a head.
The interference was found to be accidental as Hmas Perth (USA)’s original movement right-handed was quick.
