THE PJ TOWEY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) (GBBPLUS RACE) Permission was given for Sportingsilvermine (IRE) and Tawajjah (IRE) to go early to post wearing a red hood; for David Of Athens (USA) to go early to post; for City Of Poets (IRE) and Night Breeze (IRE) to wear red hoods to post.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approaching the final ½ furlong, involving Port Of London (IRE), placed fifth, ridden by Tyler Heard and Pathein (IRE), placed sixth, ridden by Robert Havlin.
Heard was cautioned for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift right-handed without sufficient correction, moving Pathein (IRE) off its intended line.
On the run to the line, the winner, Thunder Run (IRE), shifted quickly left-handed away from the whip before been corrected, which resulted in City Of Poets (IRE), placed second, to be taken slightly off its intended line, which in turn caused Pathein (IRE), placed sixth, to have to be steadied shortly before line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Thunder Run (IRE).
Following the race, Robert Havlin reported that Pathein (IRE), placed sixth, was denied a clear run from 1½ furlongs out to the 1 furlong marker.
