THE JOHN SMITH'S NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) Permission was given for Somers Isles (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approaching five furlongs out, involving and Navy Light (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Oisin McSweeney and GERRY’S DARLING, unplaced, ridden by Joanna Mason.
McSweeney was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to shift left- handed towards the rail when insufficiently clear of GERRY’S DARLING, causing Mason to take a check when tightened for racing room.
Approaching the five furlong marker, the free running Koodini (IRE), unplaced, had to be checked to avoid the heels of the winner, Crazy Cubana (IRE), which had shifted slightly left-handed after being corrected from hanging right-handed and as a consequence, Nascent Star (GB), placed fourth, which was following was hampered, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Crazy Cubana (IRE).
Passing the five furlong marker, Persian Land (IRE), unplaced, hung right-handed, impeding High Hazard (GB), unplaced, which was carried off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The performance of Persian Land (IRE), unplaced, was considered.
It was noted that David Evans could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
The winner, Crazy Cubana (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Kempton Park on 05 September 2026 where the filly finished sixth of eight runners, beaten by 14 lengths.
Ed Walker’s representative’s explanation that the filly had benefitted from a return to the turf where it appreciated the Going, officially described as Heavy, Soft in places, on this occasion, was noted.
Crazy Cubana (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, Jason Watson reported that Koodini (IRE), unplaced, ran too free.
