THE QUEEN CHARLOTTE FILLIES' STAKES (CLASS 1) (Listed Race) Permission was given for Copacabana Sands (IRE), Dash Of Azure (GB) and Magic Basma (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
Leaving the stalls, Royalty Bay (IRE), unplaced, jumped left-handed at the same time as Circe (IRE), placed third, jumped slightly right-handed, which resulted in Copacabana Sands (IRE), placed fifth, being buffeted for room over a number of strides, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Circe (IRE).
An enquiry was held to consider interference shortly after the start, involving Royalty Bay (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Dale Swift, Copacabana Sands (IRE), placed fifth, ridden by Jason Watson and Magic Basma (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Tom Eaves.
The Stewards found the interference to be accidental as Swift had taken reasonable steps to straighten his mount after it had edged slightly left-handed away from Magic Basma (IRE), whereupon the filly did not respond to his attempts at correction and actually shifted further left-handed, causing Watson to take a check when running out of racing room on Copacabana Sands (IRE).
An enquiry was held to consider interference rounding the home bend involving Copacabana Sands (IRE), placed fifth, ridden by Jason Watson and Dash Of Azure (GB), placed second, ridden by Edward Greatrex.
Watson was cautioned for careless riding as he allowed his mount to edge left- handed towards the rail without being fully clear of Dash Of Azure (GB), causing Greatrex to take a slight precautionary check.
Rounding the bend, a strong travelling Copacabana Sands (IRE), placed fifth, was being presented to take a run between Circe (IRE), placed third, and Royalty Bay (IRE), unplaced, before Circe (IRE) hung notably right-handed, despite its riders best efforts and carried Copacabana Sands (IRE) off its intended line, causing it to bump a weakening Royalty Bay (IRE), but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved nor had it improved the placing of Circe (IRE).
Following the race, Sean Levey reported that Circe (IRE), placed third, hung right-handed.
