THE RAYMOND & KATHLEEN CORBETT MEMORIAL CITY PLATE STAKES (CLASS 1) (Listed Race) Permission was given for Holguin (GB), Roman Dragon (GB), Dash Of Azure (GB), Five Ways (GB), Northern Champion (IRE) and Witness Stand (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
Witness Stand (GB) wore earplugs which were removed at the start.
Leaving the stalls, Palmar Bay (FR), unplaced, jumped right-handed, inconveniencing Five Ways (GB), placed fourth, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider interference in the first furlong, involving Holguin (GB), placed third, ridden by Faleh Bughenaim and Dash Of Azure (GB), placed second, ridden by Edward Greatrex.
The interference was found to be accidental in that a hard-pulling Dash Of Azure (GB) briefly raced in restricted room to the inside of Holguin (GB), before Bughenaim relieved the slight pressure, whereupon Greatrex then heavily restrained his mount in order to allow Holguin (GB) to cross over and provide him with some cover.
An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the final furlong, involving Holguin (GB), placed third, ridden by Faleh Bughenaim and Myal (GB), unplaced, ridden by David Allan.
The interference was found to be accidental in that Myal (GB) had hung right-handed at the same time as Holguin (GB) edged left-handed resulting in Myal (GB) briefly being impeded when moved off its intended line.
An enquiry was held to consider interference on the run to the line, involving the winner, Northern Champion (IRE), ridden by Ashley Lewis and Tiber Flow (IRE), placed fifth, ridden by Harry Davies.
Lewis was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift right- handed without timely correction, initially carrying Davies off his intended line before forcing him to take a check for several strides when moved close to the heels of Holguin (GB).
Following the race, David Allan reported that Myal (GB), unplaced, hung right-handed.
