The representative of Evan Williams could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance other than that he did not appear to be travelling throughout the race.

Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SUMMERLEAZE (IRE), unplaced, lost its left-fore shoe, HENRY BOX BROWN (IRE), unplaced, lost its right-hind shoe, GETTHEPOT (IRE), placed third, was treated for post-race ataxia, and CROOKBARROW, unplaced, finished lame on its right-fore.
