Spinola Bay takes advantage of lowly mark on handicap debut
He travelled well, he made a couple of mistakes. We thought he was well enough handicapped, but he just had disappointed us. I'd say he was a weak horse and just took a bit of time. I was under no pressure to run him off David (L'Estrange, owner) and we just gave him all the time - there was nothing wrong with the horse, he was just big and weak. Delighted and great for David, he's a big supporter of Cullentra. Thankfully, it worked out well today. Hopefully, he will be able to defy a penalty.
Quest shows plenty of Speed to record 40/1 success
The boys had a right few quid on him, they got 66/1. I rang the lads last night and said to bring a few quid. He ran in a Listed race the last time and he is 9lb lower over hurdles than he is over fences, and he wants heavy (ground). He has to have heavy. The only thing I was a little bit doubtful about was that my horses are after being off the boil. It is only last week I worked horses and I was happy coming back with them. I haven't been happy for three months. The last day was over fences, and he is as good over hurdles as he is over fences. You'll see him at Limerick over Christmas.
Found A Diamond stays on strongly for Markey & O'Sullivan
Tommy (Ward, owner) loves his racing, he eats and sleeps racing. He's not into golf or anything else, only the racing. It is great to see him get success. He gets a great kick out of it. It is owners that make racing and Tommy is so loyal to me. Very much appreciated (EBF sponsorship today) for these horses. Shane is from Monaghan and he would have started off with Anthony (McCann) and then he came down to the RACE school. He did his year in RACE and such a pity it is not there (anymore) because we used to always get jockeys coming through. It was a great grounding and you'd love to see it come back, and I hope it does come back. It needs to come back. Shane did his grounding there and got pupil of the year. He went to me for a while then went back to Anthony for a stint and then came back to me again. Great fella and a very hard worker. Lovely ride today on a horse that is not very straightforward. He is on and off the bridle, he is a little bit of a monkey hence the cheekpieces. He had to give him a little flick through the race to kind of keep him concentrating. He saves plenty for himself, but fair play to Shane. The horse caught him out the last day in Thurles, but he learned from that. He knew exactly what he was going to do with him today.
Battle Of Ridgeway scores in fine style
Soloman Lane brings up 160/1 double for Hassett and McKenna
The Lovely Man leads home a 1-2 for Gavin Cromwell
He did (get the three miles nicely), but Keith gave him a lovely easy ride and he snuck around on him. He got it nice and smooth, and he jumped very well. Hopefully (more options now), I suppose we are going to be up to a mark now that he would get into the bottom of a nice race. It was a nice race to win today, a 20 grand race, nothing wrong with it.
'The best horse I ever had in the yard' - Cleary records first Listed win in the bumper
That’s my first Listed winner and he’s certainly the best horse I ever had in the yard. He definitely improved from the last day. We had a great man on his back as well. The ground and everything was in his favour today. I just appreciate that he put the horse with me and it is going the right way for him.
