R.P. Whelan, rider of Alice Milligan trained by Mark Michael McNiff, reported to the Clerk of Scales that he took a precautionary check on the turn into the straight
The Stewards enquired into an incident on the turn into the straight involving Alice Milligan, ridden by R.P
Whelan, unplaced and Slade Runner, ridden by Sam Ewing, unplaced, where it appeared Alice Milligan had to check. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. R.P. Whelan stated that his instructions were to make the running, his mount is not an easy horse and had done a lot of racing by the time the incident occured which he felt was a caused by the horses on the inner rolling out and the horses on the outer rolling in. Sam Ewing, who gave his evidence in the presence of F.M. Berry, stated that his mount jumped away well and travelled for him. When he took his hands off the reins his mount shifted out, he put his hands back on the reins and straightened his mount as much as he could. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards considered that the incident was caused by accidental interference and took no further action.
An extended handicap for four years old and upwards rated 45-65 Weights - Top weight in the original handicap and after the time of declaration shall not be less than 10st 2lbs and the minimum weight shall not be less than 8st 6lbs Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 6lb extra for each race won.
