Nakamura wins Navan’s opening Nursery
dropping back in trip helped Nakamura and I'd say he ran into an improver of Joseph's (O'Brien, Which Wolf Wins) the last day at Galway. The little bit of juice in the ground helped, he did things nicely and the blinkers helped him sharpen up as well. He was tough (when challenged) and, to be fair, he's an improver so hopefully this can be his time of year.
Little Queenie secures a seventh success
Keane collects following Ffos Las mishap
Amiata is a horse we've always liked and he ran well first time. I then thought it was a matter of turning up and doing that the second time but he didn't. We gelded him, brought him back for the Ballyhane race and the last day we made a mistake by putting blinkers on and he did way too much. Today is more like what we have been seeing. I’m delighted for Philip Richards, who is a lovely, lovely owner and lets us get on with the job. Kerri (Lyons, daughter) is buying the horses for him and I'm delighted to train him a winner.
Corbett Court delivers on an important day for his owners
the owners (Anna & Declan Corbett) had a grandchild this morning and a winner in the afternoon, so it is great. He's a horse that has shown plenty of ability all year and just has done things a bit back to front. I thought coming out of his Down Royal run that we would progress, and we took a backward step in Galway. He was a bit free and just didn't really allow the race to happen. Today, he got a bit of cover and Donagh gave him a very good ride. I'd say the owners are very keen to run him in the Goffs Million, so I'd say that is where he will turn up. I think they have booked Donagh already.
Noli Temere scores on handicap debut
Noli Timere is improving with racing and is probably getting a little bit quicker. She is one we have always liked although she has been quite raw, and because of that, I think she could be an even nicer filly next year. She has won her maiden and now a handicap, although her rating is going to creep up. There is the Autumn Fillies' Handicap (in Leopardstown) for her and then the Denny Cordell Lavarack (Gowran Park), if she relaxes enough to maybe stretch to 1m1f. That ground is key to her: she is a Starspangledbanner filly who just loves to get her toe in. We will probably have a shot at black-type before the end of the year because a lot can happen over a winter.
Browne McMonagle moves three clear with Navan double
Enziya got caught out in Tramore the last day when they went a fair gallop, and they just took him out of his comfort zone early on. What I loved about him that day was the way he came home and they didn't go that hard today, so he was travelling all the way. I thought today’s 1m6f would be no bother to him and Dylan said he would go two miles. I am very lucky to have him and I'd say the plan now will be to go over hurdles: I think he will make a very good three-year-old hurdler. I'd say that is where he’ll go next, if he is not sold. He's a lazy horse, but he's honest and he has ability.
