THE CELEBRATE WITH SPONSORSHIP AT SOUTHWELL RACECOURSE FILLIES' HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) Permission was given for Cosi Bear (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
Shortly after the start, Welljudged (GB), unplaced, lugged left-handed which resulted in the rider of Dream Illusion (GB), placed second, taking a precautionary check, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after two incidents of interference, approaching the final furlong and inside the final furlong, involving the winner, Alessia Fernanda (IRE), ridden by Harry Smith, Dream Illusion (GB), placed second, ridden by Dylan Hogan and Special Breeze (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Kieran O'Neill.
Being a 7lb claiming apprentice, Smith was accompanied in the enquiry by the trainer.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Alessia Fernanda (IRE)’s placing as any ground or momentum lost by Dream Illusion (GB) as a result of the interference was insufficient to overcome the margin of one length, which separated Alessia Fernanda (IRE) from Dream Illusion (GB) at the finishing line, and ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
The first incident, approaching the final furlong, was found to be accidental as Alessia Fernanda (IRE) drifted right-handed, at the same time as Special Breeze (GB) edged left-handed, which caused Hogan to become short of room and take a check on Dream Illusion (GB).
In the second incident, inside the final furlong, Smith was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he allowed his horse to drift right-handed away from the whip, without correction which resulted in the rider of Dream Illusion (GB) taking a check.
Following the race, Dylan Hogan reported that Dream Illusion (GB), placed second, was repeatedly denied a clear run inside the home straight.
