THE BET £20 GET £20 WITH UNIBET HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) Darragh Keenan, the rider of Backer Bilk (GB), drawn 11, was slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Keenan’s explanation that the hood had got stuck on the bridle on the first attempt and required a second effort was noted.
The winner, Katalyst (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Ffos Las on 28 August 2026 where the filly finished ninth of eleven runners, beaten by 16 ½ lengths.
Chris Grassick explained that Katalyst (GB) had appreciated the step up in trip from 1 mile 2 furlongs to 1 mile 3 furlongs on this occasion in addition to benefiting from being ridden more patiently.
Their explanation was noted and the filly was routine tested.
