Of my runners, I thought Westport Cove would win but Gold Dancer is by Doctor Dino, who is a horse we like, and Sean gave him a lovely cute ride. He left Paul (Townend) do all the donkey work, had one crack at him and it all worked out. Westport Cove basically races flat-out so you just try to get a breather into him and while Paul thought he had enough breathers got, Gold Dancer is just improving. There is probably more improvement in him than the other horses we ran in the race. Today was the first time he showed me on the racecourse what we thought and think of him at home. We'll go down the novice chase route with him now at the big festivals and hopefully he is good enough to go on to the Drinmore Chase in December.

I’m delighted with him, Rachael gave him a super ride and fair play to the Robcour team – they said Ballyburn has beaten us twice and we need to just avoid him, so that’s what we did and it’s worked out really well for us,. It’s lovely to see young horses like him coming through, we’re very fortunate the support we get from everyone and thankfully we get the odd result. Cheltenham is an amazing, special place. We’ve had a lot of luck here and it’s a cliche, but it’s our Olympics and we’re lucky to be able to take part. You definitely breathe a sigh of relief (after having a winner). We’ve never won the Supreme before so I don’t know this feeling, but it’s good. When you’ve had one winner you want two, but we’re delighted to get one. we had really been looking forward to today and that is my first Graded win since 2011. It is a long time since we’ve had a horse like this and we’ve had a few false dawns, so it is brilliant to have one like him. I put the tongue-tie back on Ol Man Dingle today — he doesn’t need it but I wasn’t taking any chances. Ricky gave him a lovely ride, the horse has brilliant scope but can be a little brave. During his career prep, we thought an awful lot of him so went for a bumper, but he made a noise and choked. He had never given us that indication beforehand so he had a wind operation but it took him a run or two to get his confidence. He had a bad virus at the end of last season, my yard went down with something around April and May when we had few runners and he has done well to come back from it.

It was a fantastic ride by Brian,. He’s a very tricky horse to ride but Brian knows him well. He just bided his time and came with one run, that was the difference. You need experience in those two-mile handicap chases and he’s built that up. He had good-class bumper form and hurdle form, he’s just a decent horse. I’d imagine his route probably maps itself, all those good handicap chases. Now that he’s settling, he could probably go up in trip. We could look at the Grand Annual with him, I’m not sure at this stage. He’s another one of Aubrey McMahon’s buys, he bought him at the Clipper Logistics dispersal. He took a chance on him when a lot of people wouldn’t have. He deserves huge credit as well.

It has been painful! Going from his bumper wins and the way he works at home, it has been a calamity. He is a work-in-progress regarding his jumping. He has been very slow to learn and Ger Fox schooled him at the weekend and Ger couldn't believe how he hadn't got the hang of it. When he left him alone at a hurdle, he still needs a lot of help. It is a mental thing with him and hopefully he is switched on now. I told Alex to be very definite with what he wanted him to do at each hurdle - either to go short or to go long.
