Formscan By Alan Magee - SHOWURAPPRECIATION was absent for nearly two years after winning a Ballinrobe maiden hurdle and has progressed well over fences this season. The Jonathan Sweeney-trained gelding scored in fine style over an extended 2m6f at Punchestown last month and appears well treated compared to his revised chase mark of 126. Chosen Diamond won over a similar trip at Fairyhouse last year before finishing second in this corresponding race and has dropped down to a competitive mark, while Lady Bluebird should benefit from a couple of outings this term and is now fitted with cheekpieces.

The boys had a right few quid on him, they got 66/1. I rang the lads last night and said to bring a few quid. He ran in a Listed race the last time and he is 9lb lower over hurdles than he is over fences, and he wants heavy (ground). He has to have heavy. The only thing I was a little bit doubtful about was that my horses are after being off the boil. It is only last week I worked horses and I was happy coming back with them. I haven't been happy for three months. The last day was over fences, and he is as good over hurdles as he is over fences. I wouldn't have minded which of them won really! Harley Street (finished 12th) probably just didn't handle the ground, but Denis was good - we knew he would handle it. He's back down in that grade. He hasn't been able to win out of a 0-100 over hurdles, but he did it there today anyway. This has been the plan since he came back in. The handicapper probably really has him, so we said go back to where we know he runs well. He's (rated) 120 over fences, so hopefully he can still run away. He's obviously just a better chaser. He's gawky in front and you're happy his ears are pricked and he's not killing himself. The Ladies National at Fairyhouse in two weeks' time, I'd say that is where we will go next. She was actually meant to go to the Sales a week before that (Punchestown) and we kind of eased off on her. She wasn't sold and we said we would run her anyway, she just blew up turning in. They were good horses we were taking on. We knew we had her fit today and it was a weak enough contest, so we thought we would pick up. She's hardy and she probably wants it even softer, she's as tough as you get and clear winded. She is hard on herself at home, but she is tough and jumps for fun. She has been very good to me and I'm delighted. She was brilliant to me and I'd be lost without her - it is hard to get going these days. I'd say he (Hugh Finegan) will probably put her away now, but you wouldn't know with the rain we are having - anything could happen. we’re a long time trying to get his head in front over hurdles and he’s not a baby at this stage. I was saying if he wasn’t in the frame today we’d just got back chasing as we might have some chance. He works well but has disappointed us a few days although was unlucky last year on a couple of days. Philip Byrnes gave him a great spin today and actually beat him two runs, so he knew what he was riding. He kept him out on a bit of the fresher ground as along the rail it was very tacky and chopped up in there. He really had to empty the tank from the last home to get there.
