Formscan - VAL DANCER made a winning seasonal debut in this contest last year prior to landing the Welsh Grand National. He's 6lb higher than for that Chepstow success, but Mel Rowley's eight-year-old could prove even stronger this term and looks one to keep on the right side of. O'Connell enjoyed plenty of success in staying chases last season, culminating with a victory at Sandown and a second in the Eider. He's marginally preferred to Inis Oirr and Jet Legs, who are closely matched on recent running here.
