THE HEART OF OAK, PINHOE, EXETER NOVICES' HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5) After an initial false start, the start was effected successfully on the second attempt.
However, having reviewed recordings of the false start, the Starters were satisfied that no riders should be reported for contravening the starting procedures.
The winner, Modern Style (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Chepstow on 2 April 2026 where the gelding finished tenth of eleven runners, beaten 42 ¾ lengths.
Nigel Hawke’s explanation that the gelding had improved its jumping through the experience of racing and benefitted from its first run in a handicap, was noted.
Modern Style (GB) was routine tested.
Following the race, Bryan Carver reported that The Padster (FR), placed fourth, hung right-handed and Sean Houlihan reported that Prairie Queen (GB), placed third, ran too free.
