An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong involving the winner, Tasever (GB), ridden by David Nolan and Powerful Response (IRE), placed second, ridden by Sean Kirrane.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Tasever (GB)’s placing as although the gelding had drifted right-handed taking Powerful Response (IRE) off its intended line, the interference was minimal, with Powerful Response (IRE) losing no momentum as a consequence and Tasever (GB) always holding to win by a neck under a hands and heels ride.
The Stewards could not be satisfied that, with an uninterrupted run to the line, Powerful Response (IRE) would have finished in front of Tasever (GB), and as such ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
Nolan was cautioned for careless riding as he allowed Tasever (GB) to drift right-handed without sufficient correction taking Powerful Response (IRE) off its intended line.
The performance of Volenti (IRE), which finished unplaced, was considered.
Ben Haslam’s explanation that the gelding was fractious in the preliminaries on this occasion, was noted.
Volenti (IRE) was routine tested.
