THE RUHX HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) Permission was given for Jax Edge (GB) and Savannah Smiles (IRE) to wear a red hood to post; for The Flying Seagull (IRE) to wear a red hood to post and to be mounted in the chute.
Ross Coakley, the rider of The Flying Seagull (IRE), drawn 8, was slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start.
Coakley’s explanation that he was slow to remove the blindfold, due to the it getting caught on the visor, was noted.
An enquiry was held to consider interference shortly after the start involving the winner, Jax Edge (GB), ridden by Gina Mangan, Strike (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Rob Hornby, and Lequinto (IRE), placed third, ridden by Matthew Lloyd Slater.
Being a 7lb claimer, Lloyd Slater was offered accompaniment but declined.
Mangan was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as she failed to turn with rest of the field as the track turned to the left, moving Strike (GB) off his intended line, which consequently caused Lequinto (IRE) to clip the heels of Strike (GB) and stumble.
Following the race, Oliver Hoodless reported that the saddle slipped on Lazzar (IRE), unplaced and Matthew Lloyd Slater reported that Lequinto (IRE), placed third, stumbled shortly after leaving the stalls.
