THE SAM ALEXANDER MEMORIAL HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) Permission was given for Beyond Borders (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start.
The Starter reported that there had been a malfunction with the starting stalls mechanism, so permission was given for a flip start to be used.
An enquiry was held to consider the circumstances surrounding the false start of this race.
The Starters and the Stalls Team Leader were interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
It was found that there had been a fault in bays 1-7 which failed to open as the start was effected with stalls 8-11 opening as normal.
As a result of this, permission was given for a flip start to be used for this race.
Having heard all the evidence a report was forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
