THE RENDELLS ARE HAMMERS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) Permission was given for Dartrey (IRE), Magical Merlot (GB) Wild Thoughts (IRE), Ohara (GB) and Midnight Rodeo (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held into the start of this race and the participation of Cashbox (IRE), drawn 6, ridden by Marco Ghiani.
The rider and the Starter were interviewed and shown recordings of the start.
The Stewards considered that the gelding was prevented from starting on equal terms due to having its leg stuck on the side boards as the gates opened, resulting in the gelding being slowly away and detached from the field.
The Stewards ordered that Cashbox (IRE) be declared a non-runner.
Approaching one furlong out, the winner, Wild Thoughts (IRE), edged slightly right-handed at the same time as Berkshire Boom (IRE), unplaced, edged left-handed resulting in Brave Hunter (GB), placed second, being taken slightly off its intended line and Akho Mezzna (FR), unplaced, becoming short for room and Edmunds having to take a check.
After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Wild Thoughts (IRE).
