THE LONGINES VALIANT STAKES (CLASS 1) (Group 3) Permission was given for Pina Sonata (GB) and Sukanya (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
William Buick, the rider of Touleen (GB), placed fourth, beaten by a short head for third place, had appeared to ride less vigorously on the run to the line.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Buick’s explanation that in his opinion the filly was resenting the ground described as Good to Firm, which in his opinion was riding too quick for Touleen (GB).
Buick further explained that the filly was hanging badly right-handed, a fact which he reported at scales, and therefore he felt it was prudent to keep a tight hold of left right-rein while trying to maintain forward momentum whilst being vigilant about horses racing to his inside.
Buick’s explanation was noted.
Following the race, William Buick reported that Touleen (GB), placed fourth, hung right-handed.
