An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after two pieces of interference in the home straight involving the winner, Media Mogul (IRE), ridden by Billy Loughnane and IT’S A LOVE THING, placed second, ridden by George Wood.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Media Mogul (IRE)’s placing as despite IT’S A LOVE THING becoming unbalanced after receiving two bumps from the winner, it was still on level terms passing the ½ furlong marker, before Media Mogul (IRE) forged clear to win by an ever-widening half length margin.
The first incident approaching one furlong out was considered to be accidental as Media Mogul (IRE), shifted very quickly left-handed despite Loughnane’s prompt efforts to correct his mount, thereby interfering with IT’S A LOVE THING.
In the second incident, just inside the one-furlong marker, Media Mogul (IRE) having already been corrected by Loughnane, again hung left-handed as the rider was switching his whip through to the left-hand in order to assist him in keeping the gelding straight, which again impeded IT’S A LOVE THING and this was also considered to be accidental.
Following the race, Hollie Doyle reported that Naomhi (GB), placed fourth, hung right-handed in the home straight; Jason Watson reported that Upepo (IRE), placed third, hung left-handed in the home straight and George Wood reported that IT’S A LOVE THING, placed second, suffered interference in the home straight.
