THE CLOSE BROTHERS RED RUM HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 1) (PREMIER HANDICAP) (GBB RACE) Permission was given for Hercule Du Seuil (FR) to wear a red hood to post.
Grain D'oudairies (FR) wore ear plugs throughout the race.
On the bend after the first fence, Stencil (GB), which was pulled up, lugged left-handed, moving Jasko Des Dames (FR), placed fourth, off its intended line, which in turn put pressure on Brookie (IRE), unplaced, which in turn, tightened up Javert Allen (FR), unplaced, Palamon (IRE), placed sixth, and Boothill (IRE), placed eighth, leaving these runners short of room on the rail, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The winner, Ryan's Rocket (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Kempton Park on 14 March 2026 where the gelding finished sixth of seven runners, beaten by 28¼ lengths.
Fergal O'Brien’s explanation that the gelding was better suited by the drop in trip to 2 miles from 2 miles 4½ furlongs and Ryan's Rocket (IRE) jumped better on this occasion was noted.
The gelding was routine tested.
Following the race, Henry de Bromhead reported that Inthepocket (GB), unplaced, never travelled.
Mrs Jane Williams reported that Javert Allen (FR), unplaced, never travelled after being unable to obtain a prominent position in the race.
Kevin Brogan reported that Petit Tonnerre (FR), placed seventh, made a mistake at the second fence.
