Permission was given for King's Conquest (IRE) to go early and be led to post, wearing a red hood.
An enquiry was held to consider interference rounding the home bend involving Sunset In Paris (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Paddy Bradley; Fascinating Lips (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Tom Queally; Mr Trick (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Charles Bishop; and the winner, Major Major (IRE), ridden by Sean Levey.
The interference was found to be accidental as Major Major (IRE) had moved slightly right-handed as the field fanned out entering the home straight which in turn caused Mr Trick (IRE) to be moved slightly right-handed at the same time as Fascinating Lips (IRE) stepped slightly left-handed when negotiating the turn causing Sunset In Paris (IRE) to become tightened for room between runners.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final ½ furlong involving the winner, Major Major (IRE), ridden by Sean Levey and Royal Observatory (GB), placed second, ridden by Billy Loughnane.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Major Major (IRE)’s placing as although Royal Observatory (GB) was intimidated slightly off its intended line the gelding did not suffer any loss of momentum and was always being held by Major Major (IRE) with the winning distance being a head.
Levey was cautioned for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift left-handed without sufficient correction, causing Royal Observatory (GB) to be carried off slightly its intended line.
Following the race, Tommie Jakes reported that KING’S CONQUEST (IRE), unplaced, ran flat before stopping quickly and Paddy Bradley reported that Sunset In Paris (IRE), unplaced, suffered interference on the bend.
