Formscan By Tom Weekes - BLAZER reverts to hurdling here and given the switch is likely to be a long-term plan, he might be able to win with soft ground, or worse, very much in his favour for a yard in tremendous form. His last handicap hurdle run came at Aintree in April 2016 and while he failed to win in three attempts at top handicap prizes that spring, did perform well and has since been in good form over fences. He goes very well on testing ground, which many of his opponents won't do, and his 139 rating is 2lbs lower (albeit than his British rating) than when fourth in the 2016 County Hurdle. The Grimes Hurdle at Tipperary on July 5 is worth a review and Tigris River was, arguably, the one to take from that race. He won this race last year from a 140 mark and while he is now just 4lbs higher, he would probably have a better chance if the ground remained just yielding and no worse. Ruby Walsh's pick Max Dynamite has been a terrific servant and while he has threatened to win a race of this nature since finishing second in the 2015 renewal, is as yet a 'nearly horse' having been tremendously unlucky not to have won a Melbourne Cup and his recent hurdle outings have been disappointing, with soft ground a worry also. Davids Charm is another very capable performer and while he likes soft, his most recent flat outings (albeit he was slowly away at Ballinrobe) were a little underwhelming and he competes from a career high mark today. Cartwright has just five hurdle runs to his name but is therefore an unexposed type who could run a good race on handicap hurdle debut while Good Thyne Tara has done well in recent times and while she now competes from a career high mark on her return to two miles, won't be too much inconvenienced by softer ground.
