it was a great win as it was a competitive race. Ronan said he was struggling on the ground but said he once he came alive coming down the back, he was reasonably confident he would run a big one. We knew all along that he was a staying horse in the making although I didn't think it would happen in his three-year-old career. He is progressing with every run having been very babyish earlier in the year and we'll look for another race before the season ends as he has proven he goes on easy ground. He has been schooled over hurdles at Roger Loughran's and is well able to jump, if that's the route the lads want to go.

His Mallow form was probably good enough, I thought he was a bit unlucky there myself,. It was a lovely race for him with the conditions. I’d say a small field suits him, he doesn’t really like a big field. Top weight in Galway was always going to be a big ask. I wasn’t too disappointed with him in Galway, I didn’t really expect too much there to be honest. It was great to get this with him. The plan was to make it a test as there was a question mark about the rest of them staying, he totally out-stayed the second horse. There is a similar race in Down Royal at the end of the month. He was placed in two Lincolns and why that race suits, is that he goes on any ground but wouldn't have any chance over a mile on good. I had a mad idea of entering him in the Chester Cup over 2m2f as he is that type of horse, but it is only an idea at the moment. Padraig (O'Rourke, owner) is from the Punchestown area so we could also supplement him for the Champion Hurdle. We'll see what happens but if there's only five runners, why not. He unseated at Down Royal last November and galloped loose on the ambulance road for 1m4f. I don't know what happened the next day but obviously that had an effect, so we left him off and he hasn't looked back since. I was thinking of the Galway Hurdle for him last year but I have his sister Royal Hollow for that. That's her aim but we could run both: they are grand horses to have.

He did it nicely. It was a slow enough run contest and we’d have preferred a faster one,. He still has a bit of improving to do, he jumped the last very high which showed he has plenty left in the tank. Once he learns to come down and hurdle properly he should improve more. He has enough class for the Supreme (Novices’ Hurdle), but we’ll have a look and see what races he’s in and what he’s qualified for, we won’t make a decision at this stage. He has just kept improving all year and I don't know why. He's a lovely little horse and some attitude, so he has. . We will probably go to Naas now for the two-mile handicap, I used to call it the November Handicap, I think it is in October now. We had planned to go there and he is entered in it anyway. If he gets in, he will probably take his chance. . He has been an unbelievable horse for us all. . He has a serious pedigree, but as an individual he wasn't much to look at. I remember when he came to the yard one day, the fella took him out of the box and one of the lads said 'what is he by?' He says 'by Kalanisi' and the lad said to put him back in the box and take him with him! I remember the next morning, when I saw him, I was inclined toagree with him as well! . It is what is under the bonnet that counts. It is just unbelievable. . He was third in the big one at Galway(GPT) and then second on the Sunday and he didn't run his race on Sunday because he never travelled. I thought he was going to be tailed off and the next thing he finished second. Whatever it was, the ground being dead, but he just never travelled. . Eoghan rode as an amateur for us and he won on him as an amateur in Punchestown. I thought with the size of him (Ragmans Corner) the 7lb off would help. Looking at it there, we probably didn't need it!
