His best form is on soft to heavy ground. Mind you, it is no worse than soft today. I was delighted the way he travelled, and he jumped well. He did (Hayes produced him well) - he's probably a horse that doesn't find an awful lot. You think he (Hayes) has lots of horse underneath him and he was all out probably at the finish. I think Brian timed it right. I'd say around Christmas time (next). I had him in at Haydock next Saturday and obviously he won't go. Our preference was here because we were guaranteed slow ground. The ground was a bit too dry in Down Royal, but he had a good run in Tipperary on ground that was a little bit too dry for him as well. Ground is the key to him.

That is brilliant and he never runs a bad race. I was confident coming here and this horse’s heart is unbelievable. It is lovely to train a horse like this and to win at my local track is mighty. To win a graded race is unbelievable as I only train three horses and am farming. This is a good horse who would have been heard of years ago only for injury. He is a nice moving-horse who doesn't hit the ground hard so I said I'd chance him today. He travels sweet, it was a nice introduction and he is an exciting horse. He was in a hack canter the whole way. He had a bit of a dive or something at the second-last but maybe he was lacking company. He actually loves jumping and had plenty done before he ran in his bumper, as we were biding time by keeping him amused. She had a couple of good runs at the start of this season and then we thought we’d try the Troytown but it just stretched her a bit. The heavy ground over three miles at Navan just stretched her. It’s a lovely race to win with a great history to it. The soft ground is not too deep and they are finishing quite well today, so we just got away with it. There is a two-mile-five-furlong race at the Dublin Racing Festival and a little bit better ground should be a good fit.

Her dam won twice in Wexford and won three overall. She also got Grade 3 black type. This is the first foal out of her and while she is not a big mare, she is a lot bigger than the dam who was tiny. She was ready to run in May and we let her out because the ground went too quick. She is actually not that long back in and I thought she might need the run, but because it's so close to home we said we'd come here and maybe in three weeks time go to Ballinrobe for the four-year-old fillies bumper. She is after winning now so we might go for the mares winners' race in Down Royal or go straight to the Listed bumper at Gowran. If the ground is okay she will probably go to Down Royal before Gowran. My father (Charlie) bought the granddam (Party Woman) as a foal and she won three times before she chipped a bone in her knee. Wholelotofbusiness wasn’t winning out of turn and should have won here in August but got caught up in a faller, when Jack Kennedy rode him. He then bumped into a really smart horse (I’ll Sort That) of Declan Queally’s in Listowel and coming here with his weight, the race was his to lose and I couldn’t see him getting beaten. Watching it, I was worried as there was no real gallop on and thought he’d want a stiff two miles but Gary picked up the running far out. To get another winner is super but I’m more delighted with our bumper horses recently, as they are the ones you want to build on this.

we are used to tipping away quietly on a Wednesday or a Thursday so come up here and do that, I really enjoyed it. Dad owns the horse and I'm delighted for him. It is hard to believe that this is his first win over hurdles. He is a cracking little horse although a clever man would stay on the Flat, wouldn't he! I just always thought there was a nice race in him over hurdles. I was a bit worried with the step up in trip and with the ground going (to yielding), but he saw it out well. He's so small and it just takes a while to get to know him: Liam (Quinlan) knows him inside out now. For a little horse, you'd think he’d be mad going down the inside in a big-field handicap, but he loves it! He thrives on that. He doesn't realise he is only 15hh - he thinks he is 17.1 or 17.2!. The horse is plucky, the jockey is plucky and when you have the two, it is a big help. We have only around 10 or 12 in training, we tip away and are very lucky to have Liam Quinlan, who does all the hard work. The bigger operations are getting bigger and the smaller lads are getting smaller but when you have one that is competitive, it is nice.

Gavin gave Tassarolo a very good ride and while he has only ridden a few horses for us, he had won a maiden hurdle on this horse and is a talented young rider. Gavin rode Tassarolo the last day and knew him, so we kept riding arrangements the same. It was a great result for me and while it was hard luck on the owners (Final Reminder Syndicate) of the runner-up, both horses ran well. The two horses are very similar and there were a lot of people asking me ‘which one?’ today, but they are similarly rated and really I couldn’t split them. Both were going up in trip but it was just which one would see it out better, and the winner did. Tassarolo is owned by our local publican (in the Full Of Hope Syndicate) and unfortunately one of the members John O’Shea passed away the day the horse won his maiden hurdle. He has a rating of 62 on the Flat so can go back to there too so there are options with him.

Yeah, I suppose when she was 109 I felt there was a maiden hurdle in her. If we could go back, we would probably ride her very differently in a bumper. She always seemed like a filly that basically stays and it was only when we changed tactics with her in her maiden hurdles, when she was held up a bit, that she started finishing out her races better.
