Formscan By Mark Nunan - CISTERNA (1) was placed over course and distance on soft ground in April and has since won twice at Roscommon. The Mehmas gelding won well from the front at the western venue a week ago and Jimmy Dalton has a reasonable draw from which to employ similar tactics. The selection’s stablemate Sunrise Angel looked to find an extended 1m1f too far here last time, having won decisively when prominently ridden over 1m on his previous outing at Cork. Pocket Jacks had two creditable runs when entering handicap company earlier in the season, but has been absent since finishing runner-up over course and distance in June. I thought this horse would be rated a lot higher by now. He was disappointing and was hanging in his races. Thanks to (vet) Ger Kelly he spotted a thing with kissing spines after his last run. We had him treated for it and it seems to have made a difference. He didn't hang today and did everything right. He had a good run when he was beaten a neck in a Curragh nursery last year and he was working like one of our best two-year-olds in the autumn. He came here on his first run this year and ran badly. We brought him over the Ger and he found the problem. I thought he'd be a horse in the mid 70s, at least, by now. Hopefully there is more to come. It's only three weeks since he was done and he should improve a bit from the run.
